Halo: Spartan Assault announced as Windows 8 exclusive due out July

A very arcade twin-stick shooter affair is the newly revealed Halo: Spartan Assault, which is being released by Microsoft Game Studios as a Windows 8 exclusive, meaning it will support mobile devices.

This is not your typical FPS Halo, so PC gamers still aren't necessarily getting much Halo love. That it's Windows 8 exclusive will definitely keep its audience small time.

It's a pity that Microsoft isn't embracing the PC as they promised they would all those moons ago. This barely ranks as a PC title given that its clearly targeting mobile first.

The last Halo release for PC was Halo 2 which was questionably 'exclusive' to Windows Vista after passionate fans 'patched' the game to work with Windows XP. This is another disappointing display from Microsoft if kept artificially 'locked' to the Windows 8 platform. As for the game itself, it could prove an interesting spin-off... see the trailer below.

What's the point if you can't be a part of the online leaderboards or have Halo 4 connectivity, then?

This is the same thing M$ pulled off with Halo 2 for PC. Vista exclusive even though it could work on XP.

MS has had a brilliant PR situation for at least a month now, this sure helps to prolong it :).

Not that I care about the game itself that much, we've got ton of stuff like this on the PC already.

Nope. Doesn't interest me at all.
Halo 3 on PC... hmmmm... that's a little bit more intriguing...
But meh. I've got Gunpoint (awesome) and Remember Me (grrreat) at the moment so whatever ^^

Gunpoint is ridiculously good :3

Indeed. But I'm stuck on the final (I think, at least) mission :P
On a side note, those door kicking animations are boss!

I never used the door kicking actually ^_^

And yeah the last mission had a couple hurdles, but I managed it quite decently. Took me about 2 hours according to steam to go through the levels. Of course take note that there is a level editor and hence infinite fan made levels :3

It is a tad bit short, what is a shame. But, as you say, level editor saves the day ^^

It's a really easy to use editor actually, simple enough to make a complex level with a little planning.

I sure hope so. But, regretably, I don't really have much time to meddle with it right now :P
