Digital Extremes is pondering cross-platform play between PlayStation 4 and PC for their free-to-play shooter Warframe. If CCP can do it with PS3's DUST 514 and PC's EVE Online, then why not more?
Associate producer Pat Kudirka says it's "really up to Sony." Major technical decisions for the title lie in the hands of the publisher, and not the developer. What will Sony decide?
Sony approached Digital Extremes to bring their PC free-to-play shooter to PlayStation 4, but the developer retains full creative control over the property.
"The technology is there," he said. "It's really up to Sony. The technology is there and I know the developers like the idea." CCP Games connects the PS3 crowd in DUST 514 with the PC brigade of EVE Online in a persistent world, where the two communities are in constant contact with one another.
Warframe released on PC this March with a PS4 launch due when the console hits this holiday.
