Rift officially transitions to free-to-play

As announced back in May, Rift, Trion World's most successful MMO, is now officially free to play, no restrictions on levels or content for registered free players.

Subscriptions will be "optional", with Trion promising those who do pay will get a Patron membership level. Meanwhile, players who go free-to-play will have an expanded in-game store "where a variety of services--mounts, boosts, wardrobe items, and more--will be available for purchase."

Also accompanying the free-to-play shift is the 2.3 update Empyreal Assault, adding a new zone (Dendrome), 10-player raid, Chronicle, open-world raid bosses as well as game performance improvements.

Gamers can check out Rift on the official site here.

Anyone tried it out yet, is it really as free as it claims to be?
I'm guessing that you have to buy things like extra storage, wallet, some types of swift travel...

Rift is really good. The free-to-play means that some items in the store are paid for with real money, not gold. Just the advanced stuff like mounts.
