E3 2013: Respawn officially unveils Titanfall, the ex-Infinity Ward developer's major project

Ever since Vince Zampella and Jason West left Infinity Ward and the lucrative Call of Duty franchise to strike out on their own, gamers had been holding their breath to see what new developer, Respawn, would come up with.

At E3 2013, the two debuted Titanfall, a mech-and-man shooter with the same fluidity of Call of Duty, but with giant robots mixed in. The game was shown off at the Microsoft pre-E3 press briefing, then at Electronic Arts' own briefing, as well as being playable at the show.

Titanfall features a war between the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) and the Militia, where gamers will take on the role as elite Pilots. "With the ability to shift back and forth between pilot and Titan, players will have the freedom to change tactics on the fly, attacking or escaping depending on the situation," promises Respawn.

While mechs can put a hurt on anyone (including yanking the pilots out of their own mechs and tossing them like ragdolls), the pilots are equipped with jetpacks that allow them to parkour and double-jump around the level, making them a threat to mechs by their lonesome.

According to Zampella, “It’s an exciting time in the industry and it feels like the perfect time to be unveiling Titanfall. Our passion at Respawn is games and we are focused on bringing something exciting to kick off the next generation of software.”

Titanfall will be released in 2014 on PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

I would not mind if this dethrones both CoD and BF, a third major player would not be bad. And the game seems capable of actually succeeding.

After watching the multiplayer gameplay, I was actually pleasantly surprised. I'll be keeping my eye of Titanfall.
