The Evil Within the "ultimate survival horror game," declares Bethesda

Marketing VP Pete Hines from Bethesda has given a few details about Shinji Mikami's The Evil Within, which is "pure survival horror," according to Hines. It's not about big guns and mowing down horrors.

It's a lot more focused on "scarcity of resources and balancing action" with storytelling, survival or "solving puzzles." This is the Resident Evil creator's "ultimate survival horror" to date.

Hines concedes it’s difficult for someone like Shinji Mikami to be able to avoid including "some of the influences" of his work, like Resident Evil, from cropping up somehow.

"It’s a desire on his part and the team’s to take survival horror back to its roots,” Peter Hines said. “So it’s not quite so action heavy and about guns and mowing down legions of things, it’s more about scarcity of resources and balancing action with other things, whether that’s storytelling, or simply survival…solving puzzles.”

“It’s really hard, if you’re Shinji…how do you not have some of the influences of stuff you have made show up in the next thing you make," he continued. "This is his ultimate survival horror game.”

“Honestly, things that scared people 10 years ago, like blood and guts, don’t scare people anymore,” he said. ”...you can’t rely on that anymore.” Yes we're ever thirsty for more - we're like the cats in Battleblock Theater.

The Evil Within releases on Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4 and PC in 2014.

The ultimate survival horror game at Bethesda is developing something for them and trying to survive while they're doing their best to ruin your studio so they could buy you out for peanuts.

If they're still using their proprietary graphics engine it WILL be horrible, though not for the reasons Bethesda would like.

ya, ya, ya...stop bashing Bethesda. Well up ya!

“Honestly, things that scared people 10 years ago, like blood and guts, don’t scare people anymore,”

Your wrong about that. Sure not yesterday pixilated blood squirts, but gore can and will cut you in a way that your mental wounds won't heal. Mabey if you show us what's happening instead of turning the camera like a scared little girl at the drive in movies and imply something bad is happening. "resident evil movie" I'm looking at you.

Bethesda is one of the few companies that has keep me happy and willing to buy there games over the years. Call of Cthulhu in my opinion was a brilliant horror/mystery game, so I don't see why this game can't take over completely.

And here I thought The Evil within would be an in-depth article about Bethesda doing yet another dick move towards some small developer... ;)

Well, horror games aren't really my genre but will keep an eye on this one.
