Ballardia Games has announced that World of the Living Dead, a browser-based zombie survival strategy game using real world maps, will be shut down after a year of open beta. The news isn't all sad in that the game will be revamped and upgraded as WotLD: Resurrection.
The studio decided after two years of development that "the game in its current shape, form and infrastructure needed a drastic redesign."
According to Ballardia co-founder Kulpreet Singh, "We've made substantial design changes - restructuring the universe into grids, extracting information from a rich real-world data set and making these grids and data work together to provide a much more scalable game."
World of the Living Dead utilized Google Maps as players virtually explored the zombie landscape, as they hoarded survival items, met other survivors, and so on.
Players who had been enjoying World of the Living Dead will be receiving special in-game gifts for Resurrection, as well as the transfer of unspent NECRA credits.
A closed beta for a limited number of existing users will start in July. For more information about World of the Living Dead, visit the official site .
