Sony Online Entertainment will be adding player-created missions into the mix this August when they update their free-to-play MMO. PlanetSide 2 embraces the notion that "core game content is totally player driven".
It seems these custom hotspots will be limited to players with "appropriate command certs", to reward those who pursue leadership roles. How do these missions work? It's one per player for starters.
Basically you designate a particular action to be undertaken in a particular area, and those who participate in the custom hotspot are rewarded bonus XP.
"PlanetSide 2 has always embraced the idea that the core game content is totally player driven, so the mission system just takes that idea a little further. We want to give players (with appropriate command certs) the ability to create mission hotspots on the map that can be viewed by their entire Empire," SOE.
They provided two example missions:
- Air Strikes at location
◾XP bonus to ground kills/assists while in aircraft at this location.
◾Greatly increased gunner XP bonus (for Lib Pilots)
◾Greatly increased XP bonus for Sunderer kills.
- Deployment to location
◾Large XP increase to deploy-bonuses.
◾Large XP increase to AMS spawn bonuses.
◾XP bonus for repairs to any deployment vehicle (Galaxy & Sunderer)
◾XP bonus to squad-deploy bonuses
◾Increased weight on Instant-action values
Sony Online will also be releasing PlanetSide 2 for PlayStation 4 when it launches this holiday. This custom hotspot content will be going live this August when the team releases the update. Better start earning those certs.
