The $25 Celestial Steed.
Blizzard has revealed in its official forums that there may be microtransactions added to World of Warcraft, though it'll probably be restricted to "certain regions", which some speculated would be the Asian market.

This was only hinted at in previous news.

Community manager Zarhym posted, "We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game. As part of this process, elements related to this will be appearing on the PTR. We’ll provide additional updates on our plans as development progresses."

The possibility was revealed when a public test server showed an item for a future patch that adds as 100% XP buff for killing monsters and finishing quests in an "In Game Store".

Blizzard hasn't been shy about macrotransactions, such as the $25 USD special mount.

They already have microtransactions. Wanna change your name, server, etc...you pay, handsomely. They regularly have pets or mounts for sale in the name of "we'll give some of it to charity but of course we keep some for ourselves"

When I first played Rift I said Bliz should be ashamed. Bliz gives you next to nothing for your sub buck except the right to log in. While Trion was putting out content/feature patches every month at an inhuman rate and volume. With bliz size and numbers, you would think they would be cranking stuff out for their legions of paying suckers. But no, they ARE suckers. Bliz gives you almost nothing, ever. They patch in content that was supposed to be in the latest premium xpac, and patch in very little of anything else til you pay again (for an xpac on top of your sub).

I have a lot of friends still playing WoW. Most of them fall into the barely played any PC games category and are too scared to try anything else - literally. Or they don't want to leave their pet and/or mount collections even when they claim to be bored and that the game has been dumbed down to barely being playable.

If people who focus on collecting mounts/pets and who are scared of their own techno shadow think your game is dumbed down, your game is childlike.

Those are macrotransations. Microtransactions are more like buying potions with real money.
