Cross-platform play in PlanetSide 2? Not likely. Sony Online Entertainment has confirmed that PS4 gamers will be using MMO servers specifically for the console, building a wall between PS4 and PC user bases.
Both MMO versions of PlanetSide 2 are identical in content and gameplay, except for some UI tweaks, as SOE wanted players to "have the same experience" on PS4 and PC.
Multiplayer across platforms has been the lofty goal of many a studio but usually it boils down to the PC crowd exercising a tremendous advantage because of keyboard and mouse.
Adam Clegg from SOE said PS4 players "are going to be on separate servers right now. PC players will still have their servers that we have up and running right now and then we'll create PlayStation 4 servers for the PlanetSide 2 players
"We really want players to have the same experience,” he continued. “We don't want the PS4 players to have something different than the PC players.” Most recently Sony has put forward some to PlanetSide 2 in order to help funnel conflicts between factions in a more ordered fashion. They also introduced 'user-created hotspots'.
