Want some fresh Let's Play walkthrough action from Total War: Rome II? Creative Assembly have put together a 15 minute gameplay video as they introduce their new Let's Play series for in-depth teases.

In the first of this new series they focus on the historical Battle of the Nile ruckus as the devs take the role of the Roman legions to crush the Egyptians. Total War: Rome II is out in October.

"In our first video, we will take you once again to the historic Battle of the Nile but this time; from the Roman perspective," say Creative. No timetable for the future Let's Play vids.

Things I liked! :D
-Clean UI, love the classical greek style portraits
-Movement speeds are slower than Shogun, makes battles more deliberate
-Good variety of units on show, sure to be more
-Quinquiremes have three banks of oars like they should
-Hills are actually HILLS and not small bumps in the terrain

Things I did not like >:(
-Combat still too fast, morale too flimsy and lethality quite high.
-Those legionnaires threw their Javelins at an insane rate

MUCH better than Shogun vanilla combat at any rate. Hoping modding that stuff will be easy so I have nothing at all to complain about.

It's like a first person strategy game. That's not a compliment.

Could you explain what you mean by that?

I don`t like the classical greek style portraits, hope there will be a way to switch them off, movements speeds are just fine, morale is still a bitch and are the legionnaires using machine guns with javelins as ammo? Seriously, they shoot way too fast.I really love the way you can use the terrain against your enemy now,my flaming boulders will scorch lots of armies :)

One more thing I like is that the basic unit size for the infantry there appears to be 120. Maniple sized! :D

Shame we can't field the full 40 000 men of a double consular army ;-;

Even if the game could do that i think that would crush any rig my friend.

Well what is the point of those fancy intel chips if I can't use them to calculate thousands of soldiers?! D:

I like the ballistas here, they really pack a punch, unlike those in previous games where they kill a few dozen soldiers per battle... What I hate are those stupid-looking unit cards, I hate them. Unit cards in Rome and all those games after it are quite good, if they keep those I'll download 1st mod that replaces them... For all other things I agree with most of what you all said :)

Really cool to see that infantry shield wall going. I like what I saw, but wasnt blown away by anything either.

Uhmmm, more of the same TW crap.., was anyone here able to see any kind of strategy or tactic in this video??

Because I only saw a guy moving his troops forward and crushing everything in a few seconds of fight..

Well, controlling 40 units in a battle is something good compared to older games, not to mention amphibious landings... But we'll have to wait for september to see what it has to offer. I do hope it to be a revolution like R:TW was in it's day...

I doubt it can match up to that

All I want is a solid Strategy game.

Me too, but they seem to finally remove one of big things that bothered me, and that's 1 city per province (among other things), and put in new stuff. Diplomacy and trading need huge improvement (especially trade wich also needs internal trade, not just with foreign partners)... They really need to improve and put in a LOT of things, one can go on all day long to say what needs to be done. I checked in with my local game retailer and they anticipate that it will cost approx 60 euros (preorder is around 55), and that cost needs to meet some expectations. While I belive that those guys are douing their best, I still get the impression that they don't quite pay attention on fans' biggest requests...

Agreed, we need more than another graphical overhaul and fancy features when the basics need a good workover.

Amen to that :) Still, looking at these videos I'm getting that creepy feeling that this will look like Shogun 2 derivate rather than a completley new game... :/ Hope I'm wrong...
