BioWare has teased some new info about the upcoming Mass Effect prequel, and have also revealed that an all-new IP has been approved for the go-ahead.

First off, BioWare's Yannick Roy reassured one fan that BioWare is making "sure to be friendly both to old fans and to newcomers." He also promised that the character animations during gameplay would be much smoother, reassuring, "It's one of the things we would like to improve, yes."

Finally a self-proclaimed "gaymer" asked if there would be same sex romances possible in the new Mass Effect. Roy replied, "There is no reason to believe otherwise at this point, don't worry! :-)"

More intriguingly, BioWare's Jonathan Warner announced, "A successful first project review for our new IP project today. Life is good!", while project director Casey Hudson revealed that the teams that worked on Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect were working on it, stating, "Most of our core team that worked on SWKOTOR has been together throughout the Mass Effect series, and now our new IP project."

Stay tuned.

That`s it,i`m done, i defended your ass Bioware believing you can still do something good but now you`ve shown me you are no longer the company i know, with this move you have basically pussed out from your consumers, you refuse to take responsibility with the ending of ME 3 so the only good thing i have to say about you is that you once WERE a great game making company, now you`re just assholes.

Or they are just working for a**holes that don't give them enough time to finish their games properly, both are quite possible.

So doing another game in a wildly successful franchise alongside a new series isn't a good thing?

It sure is not as good as first fixing the mess they created, I agree with dan completely I probably just don't care as much. My heart was broken but I've more or less moved on, ME3 has gotten fat anyway so who cares :).

Why would they need to spend gobs of money on something that's not going to sell any more copies? Move on, nocu.

Time will tell if its gonna be excellent like ME3!
I think so!

Jonah, I'm not asking them to fix ME3, that's already history, I'm asking for a sequel and I'm not at all satisfied with a cop out prequel. They've written themselves into a corner and I see this prequel as proof of that.

I'll move on eventually don't worry :).

I agree, it's almost impossible to do a sequel to ME3. But I'd really like to explore more of that universe, the pre-reaper ME1 universe was amazing, and if the only way to do that is a prequel, I say go for it.

Also, being a prequel, they likely won't have much wiggle room for grandiose plot twists, so they'll have to focus on atmosphere, world-building and character development, which is exactly what I want from this game. I've actually got hopes for this!

What if it's a reboot :).

I can see your point, the game could turn out to be smaller in scale but more personal which doesn't sound bad.

@unsilviu
A sequel to ME3 is possible. All the writers have to do is pull "Deus Ex Machina" out of the hat, though ME3 ending is exactly that.

Well, I'm not going to write off Bioware unless I actually see the finished product and it's complete garbage. Until then, there's always a chance they could finally come out with a real masterpiece and I'll reserve my judgment until then.

So why Casey Hudson asked fans (on Twitter and BW Social) what they want (sequel or prequel), and 80+% voted for suquel, sorry sequel...

I will pass this time.

P.S. Now I fear for DA3 even more...

Yea, you have to wonder why they even bothered asking if they planned to ignore the results anyway.
By unsilviu (SI Core) on Jul 18, 2013

I'm sure they didn't ignore the results, but it's just one out of a long list of factors that they take into consideration.

Look as long as it's a good game I don't care what order they put them in
