Independent developer Alex Harvey has a new monochromatic game on Kickstarter, Tangiers, which according to Harvey has "the sandbox stealth of Looking Glass Studio's Thief series as the base."
Tangiers puts the player in the role of an insect-like interdimensional creature seeking out five other beings to dispose of. The "avante-garde" world has been splintered by the player's arrival, "broken into shards across a broken, bleak landscape."
The striking art direction of the game, reminiscent of Limbo, is due to the nature of the world, which "collapses and rebuilds itself the more you interact with it - future areas rebuilt with the fragments and personality of places you mistreated."
This is more than just artistic, it's part of the gameplay mechanic. For instance, spoken words actually materialize, so a guard muttering about not being able to find the player can be used to distract and mislead others. "Gather the intimate words of an illicit conversation and use them to unveil secrets, hidden pockets within the city," states the Kickstarter entry, "Turn them into reality - a character mentions rats and you can turn his words into a devouring swarm of them."
The goal of Tangiers' fundrainsing is £35,000 goal. Gamers interested in checking the game out can visit the Kickstarter page .
