Iceberg Interactive has announced that space 4X title Horizon is making the big galaxy jump from alpha to beta, thanks to the constant feedback from early adopters through Steam Early Access.

The team has "integrated many great suggestions already," and plan to continue doing so. The studio has outlined the new features in the alpha-to-beta upgrade.

AI opponents will now scale their aggressiveness to the player, with better path finding for ships. The economy has been retuned with colonies now able to specialise.

“We are very excited with Horizon's development, having moved to the next stage!” says Raffi Parsekhian, CEO at L3O Interactive. “The feedback from our early adopters has been terrific and while we have integrated many great suggestions already, we want to continue on this path during Beta on Steam's Early Access program."

"Horizon already offers a compelling 4X experience and we are looking forward to enhancing it further as it continues to evolve with the help of 4x strategy gamers.”

Developer L3O has put together an overview of alpha-to-beta upgrades:

A more challenging game experience:
- A.I. now dynamically adjusts its aggressiveness against the player
- A.I. now plans and executes various military actions with the help of an overall mastermind, several types of tacticians and a fleet coordinator
- Improved path finding for ships
- A more balanced game economy and colony population rates
- Colony management will now require more decision-making and allow for specialized worlds

Other changes and additions:
- A race report view has been added that keeps a history of major events relating to the race
- Additional story missions have been added
- 12 new Human ship designs added
- Improved UI and higher resolution animation scenes
- Galaxy generation with many more stars for bigger and longer gameplay sessions
- Many fixes and better handling of non-standard windows system configurations

Horizon Game Features:
• Advanced turn-based tactical combat for 4X fans

Bought it,give me a few hours and i`ll tell you what i see, also if you`re in the mood for something a la Freelancer,i recommend taking a look at Starpoint Gemini 2,it`s still in it`s alpha so don`t expect too much but i can see that once it`s done,it will be great and if you buy it now you also get the original SG which i heartily recommend though the voice acting is hilariously bad.

Okay, played a bit an here is my report:

-not great but not really bad either, nothing to make me complain about at least
-it has lots of mini-movies for meeting other species or when you start your campaign and the such which i very much like

-there is actually a story in this game, which is quite surprising i must say,i did not manage to really get into it though so that`s all i`ve got

-overall the game is far more complex than endless space,to me that`s good but this really depends on everyone`s preferences
-lots of races to choose from though for now you can only play as the humans
-combat is very much turn-based,you can hail ships, scan, launch shuttles to board or fighters to attack, very meaty all in all, this feels like Heroes of Might and Magic 3 if it was set in space
-ship design is also pretty good, better than Endless Space but not as good as StarDrive
-you can focus on researching certain technologies or just let them do it on their own, either way your tech advances even if you don`t fiddle with it
-the planet screen is actually pretty good, maybe better than Endless Space but don`t quote me on that
-like in StarDrive you have to be carefull which planet you choose to colonize since depending on the resources you will need to adapt, you cannot make a planet be good at all things
-the only resource you really have is money and you can use it to speed things up

That`s about it for now,i don`t regret buying the game i can say that much but i do think it can use some improvements here and there.

Anyone know anything about Starlight Inception? It`s also set in space but that`s all i can really gather about it.

Thanks Dan. I have so many space-based RTS's/TBS/ and 4X's now that I might hold off for a bit, after being disenchanted with "Endless Space"'s DLC. Then again, it is a bit of a weakness of mine....
"Starlight Inception" - I have it on my wishlist, but best to follow it on it's home page or on FB:

Still very rough looking.
