Dark Souls 2 keeps Havok Physics engine

Namco Bandai has confirmed that while hard-as-nails RPG Dark Souls 2 will be getting a visual overhaul, it will be keeping its choice of physics as it continues to use the Havok Physics engine.

Game director Yui Tanimura has said he'd want 'next-gen physics' if Dark Souls was made for Xbox One and PS4, as graphics are at a "maximum level" on consoles.

The news of continued use of the Havok Physics engine is great for AMD users on PC as it means they won't be left out as Nvidia's PhysX isn't looked on kindly.

"In order to implement a physics engine, we'd need more machine power and more CPU power," Tanimura-san told Joystiq. "That can only become possible if we were to create a game for the, for example, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One." Namco Bandai has said the studio is taking the time to "fully capture all the necessary specs" for PC Dark Souls 2.

Dark Souls 2 releases on Xbox 360 and PS3 March 11th in the US, 14th in EU. It's on PC "shortly thereafter".
