China has a large PC contingent, mostly from MMOs and MOBAs - in addition to a notorious, trademark-infringing pirate market - but for years it has banned consoles. That has changed, with some help from Microsoft, as the country has ended its 13 year ban.
Microsoft announced a partnership with Chinese media company BesTV to offer games and related services with a brand-new console, with Microsoft holding a 49% stake in the venture.
Of course, China will still strictly regulate what types of console games are allowed to be sold in the country. Interestingly, the lifting of the ban on Twitter and Facebook may be related, as the country may have done so to attract foreign developers and companies into setting up shop there. They might not want to move there without being able to access their social media accounts.
