XCOM: Enemy Within adds save scum option

While XCOM: Enemy Unknown has an Iron Mode that doesn't allow players to save and continue, the upcoming Enemy Within DLC will add a Save Scum mode, designed to let players, well, save scum, with a randomizer on loading so that the same result doesn't always occur when loading a quick save.


According to lead game designer Anand Gupta, "It resets the random number seed whenever the game is loaded. For people who really want to keep shooting until that 80% shot hits."

The only penalty is the shame players may feel for having to rely on save scumming.

Shame? Dude have you played this game? I lost shots with 95% to hit,that and the game is tough as nails and has some design decisions that just work against the player,like when you see an enemy for the first time they immediately get to move which is extremely infuriating,i love this game but it`s difficulty is borderline cheap since there are times when the AI downright cheats.

95% means you fail 1/20 times you silly person, that's not a problem.

The difficulty isn't a reason to save scum, that's just a way to make you feel better about how weak you are :P

Well we can`t all be loincloth killers,after all this ain`t Dark Souls :). The problem i have with this game is unfortunately it`s difficulty,like i said there are things that give an unfair advantage to the enemy and i see that as a cheap way of adding difficulty.

I kinda preferred the ye olde ones. You could easily lose a few guys to freak circumstances, but you had enough cash that you could hire replacement noobs without crippling the rest of your efforts.

I really enjoyed the new version, but if you lost some good soldiers mid-game then it was all over, by and large.

You had to start cycling guys through early on so you had some spares that hjad SOME skills built up at least. That seemed to work for me alright
