The original real-time strategy Warcraft franchise is being tinkered with as a "side project" within Blizzard, with "several guys" looking into HD re-releases of Warcraft 1, 2 & 3. No official announcement yet.
This isn't concrete confirmation of HD launches for the IP that led to Blizzard's biggest cash cow, but that they are working in "some form or fashion" to make the RTS series 'modernised'.
The Warcraft series has sat dormant for years with many speculating Blizzard has a new instalment secretly in the works. World of Warcraft revisits the RTS timeline.
"So, we actually have a guy on our team - actually several guys on our team - who are actually working on a side project to do something like that in some form or fashion,â said World of Warcraft production director J. Allen Brack. âWe're fans of Warcraft 1, Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3, and we'd love to replay those games for sure.â
The new MMO expansion Warlords of Draenor digs into the lore of the Warcraft universe by taking players back to pivotal battles, and would make a great compliment to a re-release of the original games. The latest expansion even has a small amount of classic Warcrafting as players can now build their own .
