Ken Levine defends the shortness of Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea Part 1

BioShock Infinite developer Ken Levine is defending the shortness of Part 1 of the Burial at Sea DLC, which can be completed in less than two hours.

According to Levine, "If you zip through it then it's not a hugely long experience but if you dig deep it's probably three hours plus, if you really dig deep. But it's not the longest thing in the world.

"I think there are definitely people who are like 'Well, I want hours and hours of gamplay'. I think if that is your primary metric, this probably isn't the thing for you. If you want to feel like 'Wow, I just got a whole new experience' - that's what you get out of this."

He went on to stated that "I don't read people's household budgets and I can't tell them what they should buy. We chose quality over quantity."

Levine admitted that the team could have gone the "easy route" and just done more Columbia with new powers, enemies and weaponry, but instead the team decided to "take all of game systems we designed in Infinite and modify them so they belong in Rapture," making a hybrid of BioShock 1 and BioShock 2 combat.

Part 1 of Burial at Sea is $15 standalone, and part of BioShock Infinite's Season Pass.

What you really meant is:
You paid me, I delivered - and you rant - I still collected the money!
I win!

Bah,Bioshock Infinite is just a cheap knock-off of Halo anyway,i hope Levine gets hit by a car for the crap he did.

$15 for 3 hours of content IF you go out of your way to make it last that long? Wow.

No defence, sorry. Just keep promoting Piracy Levine, but don't come crying when it happens. While there is no defence for illegally downloading games, there is no need to incite people to do it either.

Dan, how do you even... argh, no use.
He can say whatever the hell he wants (Levine), for I don't care much for what the devs say if the game rules. I'll be getting this as soon as the price drops, so yeah.

One born every minute. $5? Maybe.
As for comparing "Bioshock" with "Halo"? Sorry Dan, apples and genetically enhanced oranges.

Hmmmm, and I was literally just about to buy this. Guess I'll wait a little while and spend some more time on Fallout.

Hero and Gale, both have regenerating shields, two weapon loadouts and the enemies in BI are bullet spongy as all hell,Bioshock 1 and 2 did not have a shield and two weapon loadouts.

Meh, I'll prolly get the season pass in a year or two when it's on special for like $7.50.

If the game itself is, what, $50 in the US, then a $15 DLC should add at least a third more content.

It kinda of feels like devs are justifying high prices for addons by making them stand-alone... like anyone who does not have Infinite would buy the extras anyway.

lol - Just saw; us Aussies get to pay $20, not $15.

Well that takes it from "No" to "Get knackered, Dick"

@danfreeman: Like, EVERY console FPS borrows those mechanics from Halo now. What more distresses me is that you said Levine should get hit by a car for what he'd done. Why? Did he rob you at gunpoint and kill your pet rabbit? Or did he just make a videogame you didn't like? Why would you wish injury and/or death on someone for such an unimportant thing?

Okay 1,saying something and meaning it are two different things, especially on the internet and 2,like you said CONSOLE FPS.Bioshock was one of the few multi-platform releases that actually worked as a PC game and now Levine dumbed it down to the console standards which to an old-school pc gamer is simply unacceptable.

After paying the first game a bit after the hype, and also getting the BioShock 2 as a signing up bonus, I have to really say that I don't get the hype. I honestly don't believe that this game out of all the games should get so much focus. The worlds are OK and inspiring, but new and groundbreaking? Geez - they are takes on many Steampunk fantasy novells out there. The games are still a mix of (PC) poor controlled FPS games with a somewhat Yellowbrickroading towards pre-defined things.

Even though I figured out what was about to happen in the first game - there is no escaping it - and that destroys the illusion.

Had they been better games in mechanic they would have been more fun to play, but BioShock2 I could only stand an hour of before I got bored with it.

Oh well, for me, Infinite owns the first Bioshock.
And yeah, dan, you're always a tad bit overzealous so we're getting used to it :D

Dan, no offence, but you are everything that is wrong with the gaming community, throwing death threats around like it's a pat on the back.

Okay maybe a little offence, just a bit.

Honestly if i was the worst that`s wrong with the gaming community that`d be great, but i think we all know that ain`t the case.

YEah you're right, but a lot of people actually mean that stuff when they throw it around and I feel it's a good idea to at least TRY and present a more mature image to people. That amount of abuse and vitriol thrown at some people just for reviewing a game they like less than perfect, or writing a storyline they disagree with is absolutely ridiculous.

Don`t you remember a few years back when a game dev actually got a death threat in his mail,i don`t remember who it was but yeah that ain`t a nice thing to get.Well you can rest easily knowing that i`m nowhere near that stage at least.

Oh, wasn't it that one dev that rebalanced a Black Ops 2 weapon? Jesus, those guys need to chill. In a mental institiution, though.

Rape threats are more common, esp if there's a lady working at the company. I'm not sure if the people making the threats realise that's not any better.

Some gamers are nasty, entitled little bitches.

We (kinda) know Dan and can tell he doesn't literally want Levine to get hit by a car. If that was one of a torrent of low key literary abuse then it would be a lot harder to tell it apart and would start to feel like they mean it.
By SirRoderick (SI Elite) on Nov 13, 2013

What we're saying Dan, is that it's really not funny to anyone anymore so you might as well stop saying that stuff, you'll just look like one of the lunatics that are aCTUALLY thinking like that.

Honestly I say we put an entrance exam on the internet

Okay guys, settle.
No threatening language please, to members of this community or any other from members of this community. If this occurs, please report it.
We're better than that.

After reading my last post again, I'd like to clarify that my middle paragraph does not relate to anyone here. I don't think that came across adequately.

In their defence, the DLC cost me £12 and I was actually satisfied with it. Could have been a tad longer, but well worth the price I paid. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it challenging, and the ending was quite interesting.

Eh, not great value per time though, have to admit that. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy it, just need to keep it in mind when shopping I guess.
