The community of Star Citizen erupted in panic as a recent Wingman's Hangar episode revealed a PlayStation 4 devkit was in the Cloud Imperium Games offices, leading to rampant speculation.
Chris Roberts, ambassador of space sims, has affirmed that Star Citizen is a PC game that won't even dilute itself for a "lesser platform," and they "will NOT limit" themselves.
Star Citizen is a purely crowd-funded game which holds the title for most funds and one it will hold for a long time as pledges keep rolling in. It recently cleared $27 million.
Freelancer and Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts took to the to address the community in person and to assure everyone the sky isn't falling because of a PS4 devkit.
"I figured it was best to post this in its own thread instead of one of the many "Star Citizen on PS4, the sky is falling!" threads that sprung up this weekend after a PS4 devkit was spied in background on Jason Spangler (our CTOs) desk," he began. The studio and community enjoy a very intimate line of communication, which has led to the huge waves of interest in Star Citizen long after its Kickstarter campaign ended.
"While some could view the 1+1 = 256 logic that it required to come to the conclusion that we were ditching the PC for PS4 as an overreaction it does show how passionate everyone is in this community about the PC as the best gaming platform, which warms my heart!"
"Star Citizen IS a PC game," continued Roberts. "It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform. We will NOT limit the input options or supported peripherals to the lowest common denominator. We will NOT pass on features and technology just because they will only run on some hardware configurations."
