While 2012 was crowned 'The Year of the Game' by Kickstarter, 2013's pace for crowd funding video games has blown past last year's $83 million to tally $112 million with weeks to go yet.

Overall games have seen pledges reach $200 million, with $178.15 million actually funding projects from successful campaigns. Games make up 22% of total pledges.

Over 54 Kickstarter projects have achieved over $1 million with 29 of those in the gaming space, which has sailed past film and video as the most productive category.

In total Kickstarter has counted $919 million in total pledges by backers, with 53,672 successful campaigns. Total backers have reached 5,368,626 with 1,574,423 of those repeat backers. Thanks to Double Fine's Tim Schaffer, gamers have found their voice (through their wallet) to hear directly from game makers big and small.

This month alone has seen Wasteland 2's beta release to backers, and Elite: Dangerous' alpha. There's also Stonehearth's Alpha 1 due and Divinity: Original Sin is now out in alpha form as well. Chris Roberts' Star Citizen began on Kickstarter achieving $2.1 million, but has gone on to raise over $34.5 million directly.
