StarCraft 2 receiving Patch 2.1 this week, Arcade now free for Starter Edition

Blizzard is increasing the allure of the Starter Edition for StarCraft 2 by making all Arcade content and custom games freely available to those just trying out the sci-fi RTS, which means more mods for everyone.

For those who own the full game, Patch 2.1 tweaks a number of game systems like letting us create mutators for any map, events and custom clan decals and more.

You can even pump in the original Brood War soundtrack for your more up-to-date Zerg rushes. Blizzard has posted two new videos to highlight Patch 2.1's changes.

Additions include the Free Arcade, events for clans and groups, extension mods for mutators, alter league boundaries, increased level cap with rewards, and a re-mastered soundtrack for the original StarCraft games.

Patch notes are available on Battle.net as the latest update rolls out this week.

And for anyone here that isn't sure about the game or didn't like it. You have exactly zero excuse to not give this free edition a spin now. The arcade has everything from total conversions to tower defence games, football and mario party style games.

Seriously, come check it out! :D

PS
I really need one of those carbotanimation avatars o-o

Arcade's been pretty empty for a while now and this is surely going to help bring some new folks in.

Empty? I haven't had any trouble getting games rolling at all. And the Starbow mod already boosted player counts by quite a bit. That game is FUN :3

Anytime i have a friend over and he tries to play some quick games in arcade it almost always takes a few attempts before he finds a full game, it's been like that for over a year if not close to two.

Oh come on, this is the only good Blizzard game to this day, why not to buy it? :)

Hearthstone is good too, but you don't have to buy that :P

Bugger, still can't get my account back. Bugger Blizzard's draconian security measures against legitimate owners of the game!

I know several people that lost their account. They just produced IDs and it was reinstated within a day or two.

No, they want more than I.D.'s - they want proof of purchase, such as a photo of your store except, scanned and sent to them. Who the Hell has store receipts?
If I could be bothered with this overrated game ever going on my hard drive again, I might pursue it further but I have to say that for me it was "same-old-same-old" with flashy graphics.

IDK what problems have Hero here, cuz the most annoying procedure were to show em the photo (without any other personal data) of my passport with my name on it, thats it.

Well maybe Blizzard is racist towards aussies? Shame on them :P

At any rate, I used to think the exact same way as Hero. The "same-old" idea. That just totally changes when I really got stuck in. I don't know of any game that has such an impact in BOTH strategic decision making AND snap judgement calls and unit control.

Imma just leave this here in case anyone is interested. It's a video going over some of the many many games that you can play, for free, in the arcade. The last one is actually a professional game with commentary and everything that's very newbie friendly
