The Chinese Room has confirmed that their Everybody's Gone to the Rapture PS4 game will not be releasing this year. It would be "unrealistic" to assume it was ever going to be out in 2014.

The developer never gave 2014 as a date as it was just assumed when a trailer debuted last year. They've also removed a 60-minute time limit they had planned.

Basic exploration in first-person is what this new title from the Amnesia creator is all about. We play a scientist exploring what's happened during the apocalypse.

Their focus has been a "deep, highly immersive and emotional journey that’s non-linear, with a dynamic and adaptive environment." That sounds lovely, but it won't be in our hands for at least a year more. “Rapture actually wasn’t ever slated for a 2014 release – we’re still very early in development. So we can confirm it’s not going to be out this year. As soon as we do have a launch window, we’ll let you know,” The Chinese Room told VG247.

CryEngine 3 is used for Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and they are putting a greater emphasis on object manipulation in the game world than Dear Esther, "so you can manipulate objects, you can open and close doors," they said. Some places require more work than others to explore them.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is currently exclusive to PS4, but just might appear on PC a little later.
