There's doings afoot! Interceptor Entertainment, developer of Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded, is apparently working feverishly on a top-down action-RPG for PC and PS4 set in the Duke Nukem universe.

They call it 'Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction', according to a now offline teaser. Fans cracked an 'alien text' cypher to spill the game's secrets. It uses the Unreal engine and is due this year.

Scott Miller, creator of the Duke himself, has working on 'Project Ascender' at Interceptor since last September with a small 19-man team. This is the fruit of their labour.

The now offline teaser featured Duke's favourite bubblegum where 10,000 Facebook likes would have revealed what the teased alien text said, but eager fans broke the cypher themselves. "The King makes his next-generation debut in Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction. A top-down action role-playing game for PC and PlayStation."

"Duke Nukem kicks ass across planets in an Unreal Engine-powered galactic adventure to save the President from an apocalyptic alien threat," continued the cracked code.

This new Duke Nukem will feature "series-first mechanics" like tried and true "experience points and tech trees" to be exploited as we blast our way through alien scum. Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction releases on PC and PlayStation 4 sometime this year. Interceptor was developing Reloaded, a sequel to Duke Nukem 3D, but it was shelved.

This can hopefully inject some much needed enthusiasm back into the Duke Nukem franchise after the lacklustre Duke Nukem Forever from Gearbox Software, which failed to ignite much fanfare.

There's still some life left in Duke and we're not out of pigs yet either.

Nah, Duke's dead. Might appeal to those who haven't been through all of the releases, but for one who has it's time for a new franchise hero.
