Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley has hinted that EverQuest Next may lend support to virtual reality headgear, and mentions one VR kit "which actually comes from Sony."

He teases that we "may have our Snowcrash after all," referring to the Neal Stephenson novel featuring a VR-based Internet. EverQuest Next is for PC and PS4.

It is expected to earn the title of being the first ever MMO that supports Oculus Rift natively. Sony is releasing EverQuest Next as both a full MMO, and a world building tool.

"Hearing good things about 2 competitors.. one of which actually comes from Sony. So I'm thinking this is real and we may have our Snowcrash after all," said John Smedley in his Reddit AMAA.

EverQuest Next Landmark is their free-to-play world builder that lets gamers create their own structures and environments, which could then be brought into the MMO. The alpha of Landmark released last week on Friday. Sony is yet to officially acknowledge their virtual reality headset project. Oculus Rift continues to lead the charge.

EverQuest Next Landmark alpha access is available to those who purchase a Founder's Pack.
