For all who pre-purchase Men of War: Assault Squad 2 the beta is now available to enjoy, but indie developer Digitalmindsoft warns it's a rough road ahead for early adopters. They'll gradually expand the beta.

Assault Squad 2 uses a different engine than the first and the team are still hammering out the kinks, but it does bring with it multi-core threading and fancy shaders. Stability their main concern.

If you've supported Call to Arms then you might recognise the engine they're using. Making sure it's stable and performing well is their primary focus at this early stage of the beta.

The developer has also been changing their multiplayer services from GameSpy to the more robust and inclusive Steamworks, which has been a "huge step" for the project. "Changing a system like this is not like pushing a switch, instead it's many months of hard work. Work we dedicated to deliver you the best possible multiplayer experience."

"Once everything works like we want, we will move on to add new features into the game and listen to player feedback. But please bear with us that performance and stability are our biggest concerns right now and fixing needs time. We want this game to look better and run better for everyone and this can't be achieved without your support and patience!"

The team also remind fans that this is 'Assault Squad 2' and not 'Men of War 2', so many aspects will be similar to the first. " do not expect a totally different game. We never promised such, nor will we. It's clearly communicated what AS2 will contain on the store page and every owner of AS1 receives an additional discount on an already rather affordable game." They point to Call to Arms if you want something different from Men of War, which is being crowd-funded.

Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is available now through Steam, with standard and deluxe editions.

Damn, my rig still can't play the first one with full video options. I'll save this for my next upgrade.
