Xbox 360s outsold PS3s three-to-one over Thanksgiving holiday

Microsoft is patting themselves on the back, and likely on the wallet, after huge sales for the next-gen console over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Retailers revealed they had sold three times as many Xbox 360 units over the Black Friday weekend than PS3. Microsoft's console priced from $200 to $400 during the sale.

The PS3 cost either $400 or $500. Apparently the hungry Black Friday consumers gobbled up 25% more Xbox 360s than they had last year. With some price cuts in European regions Microsoft have stated that sales have "nearly double" last year's numbers.

"We entered into the Black Friday sales period with cautious optimism, knowing that dollar for dollar, Xbox 360 offers more social entertainment value than any other console on the market," said Xbox boss Don Mattrick.

YouTube already sports a number of videos documenting the crazy wild eyed US bargain hunters in action over the Black Friday weekend.

"Record Black Friday sales in the US, coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox LIVE members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009," he continued.

Who says commercialism wrecks the holiday spirit? Think of all the less spirit and joy there'd be if you knew a cheap-ass gift was coming your way. The corporations are only thinking of you really...

I don't have to buy a PS3 cause I already own one. As for the X360, well, I don't need one. I have a PC.:P

Given another 12 months the PS3 might be a viable alternative to the XB360. But as it stands, the latter is the best option for those who don't own a decent PC (oh, the shame). As Soul said, the XB has a far larger range of titles at present as well.

It sure took long enough, huh? Can't really say I'm surprised. The 360 does offer a lot more exclusive games. But if I could be given a choice, I would rather play Gears Of War 2 on the PS3 than the 360. Mainly because the PS3 controller is a lot more precise, where as the 360's always feels too twitchy or something. And some games just seem to run smoother on the PS3 as well. But your not gonna be playing GoW 1&2, Fable 2, Mass Effect 1&2 (among others) on the PS3 either. But who need's 'em when you have Metal Gear Solid 4 anyways?! :D
