Rumour: Ubisoft has 'restarted' Rainbow Six: Patriots three times

Ubisoft has offered 'no comment' on the rumour that Rainbow Six Patriots has been "redesigned from the ground up three times," according to Superannuation. Ubisoft's Laurent Detoc has said before it "wasn't working".

He said at the time a "very influential" editorial group within the publisher decides if something goes forward or not, and that they're "not going to bring it to you" if it doesn't.

At the last confirmation that Ubisoft was restarting the project they said that at least now it could take advantage of the new Xbox One and PS4 hardware.

"We had a core team," said Ubisoft's North American president Laurent Detoc. "They had a good vision. They got started, and then the game wasn’t working." The team had to "start again," he said. "There’s an editorial group in Ubisoft, a big group, very influential. If the game is not good enough, they say it’s not good enough. Most of the time, the team will say, ‘yeah, I know.’ But sometimes they want to continue in a direction where you say, ‘no, it’s not going to work.’"

“Rainbow had to be remade. Now they’re going to have the benefit of the new consoles, if and when it comes out. It’s one of those examples where you try, it doesn’t work, you try again. If it doesn’t work, we’re not going to bring it to you.”

That editorial group remains unhappy, if the latest rumours prove true.

"Rumor is that Rainbow 6 Patriots has been redesigned from the ground up three times. Yikes," tweeted Superannuation.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Patriots was set in New York City and had the special forces team deal with terrorists calling themselves the 'True Patriots', and believe they're a populist militia 'taking out the trash' on Wall Street. Whether this remains the narrative thread any more remains to be seen. Below is a prototype video from 2 years ago.

Imagine how many hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars are burned this way. Blizzard possibly on top doing redesign from the ground up XX times and throwing work out, so many months of salaries paid for a work that gets thrown into the garbage bin.

No wonder publishers get broke and studios closed.
