Ken Levine: Industry needs to work on making PC market more "broadly successful"

Talking with Forbes, 2K Boston's Ken Levine has asked for the industry to start working on making the PC market more "broadly successful". Levine finds that he is more comfortable when sitting with a mouse and keyboard two inches away from the monitor.

"I wish the industry could find a way to make PC gaming more broadly successful," said Levine. "There are so many challenges for PC gaming - the complications from systems specifications to the drivers - most people look at PC games and say, 'What are you talking about?'"

"It's a shame because as a gamer, I am never more comfortable than I am sitting with a mouse and keyboard two inches away from my monitor."

My opinion is that PC developers need to start focusing once again on developing for the PC as a platform, not continue the trend of trying to cross-platform develop every title. The PC has strengths that other platforms currently do not broadly support, so cross-platform focus only hurts games for PC.

Yes, but developers and publishers are scared (or just became bat s*** insane) of the piracy that is seemingly destroying the industry, so they just make ports (mostly lazy ports, but some are good) and slap a draconian DRM in it. Some courageus companies still try the pc-only way (such as Stardock), but mostly are going to the consoles wihile still developing quality pc games (Valve, Crytek, CD Projekt, Id are some examples), while others have completely abandoned PC gaming (namely Epic).
I sincerely don't know what to expect from the future of pc gaming.

Well, i guess it depends on which Platform you grew up with, as for myself i prefer a gamepad over the mouse and keyboards, but for action based games, because for FPS's Mouse and Keypad will always dominate over. Don't even think about RTS, it's just impossible on consoles.
