Ubisoft "would be very stupid to not satisfy" fan appetite for Assassin's Creed

Why are their annual Assassin's Creed releases? That would be because we demand it be so, says Ubisoft, and they'd "be very stupid" not to supply us. The studio is put under "a lot of pressure" to deliver.

We'll keep getting a new Assassin's Creed annually until demand goes away, explains VP of creative Lionel Raynaud. Ubisoft has two Assassin's Creed projects in the works.

Recently Ubisoft confirm the existence of Assassin's Creed: Unity as being set during the French Revolution, but there's another subtitled Comet alleged to exist.

Unity is a PC and next-gen only release for the series, as Ubisoft look to take full advantage of the new technology without sacrificing certain design decisions to accommodate Xbox 360 and PS3. The announcement trailer was completely produced with pre-alpha in-game footage.

"We are able to offer people a new Assassin's Creed every year because they want Assassin's Creed every year," Raynaud told Edge. "As long as this is true we would be very stupid to not satisfy this need, but it puts a lot of pressure on us to create something that will never disappoint."

"It needs to keep the series core values and we need to really make sure that we have a good, high level understanding of what it is to be an Assassin. We have to make sure we always deliver a better feel and overall experience every time while still bringing something that they haven't seen before that's consistent with being an Assassin in the world we've created."

Ubisoft isn't ceasing production of current-gen releases, but wouldn't confirm whether a new Assassin's Creed was being put together for them. "We will have games for PS3 and 360 for this year and probably the years after," he said. "We want to be able to provide games to people who are playing on these consoles." Watch Dogs will release on them in May.

"...We'll keep getting a new Assassin's Creed annually until demand goes away..."

This doesn't sound promising.

As long as they make it good there`s not much reason to complain.

But that basically means they're fine with eventually running the franchise into the ground.

I guess that's nothing a reboot a decade later can't solve :/.

You mean there's still an appetite for this seemingly unending progression of less and less imaginative sequels (not that the first of anything above average).
Having asked that question, let the Heaven's fall and the hating begin...
