Neversoft closed down today, went out with burning eyeballs and bowie knives

Veteran development studio Neversoft closed its doors today, the first step of its eventual merger into Infinity Ward.

To mark the occasion, the studio's staff did what anybody would do in a similiar situation. They burned a giant eye and received their custom-made bowie knives.

It's a shame to see Neversoft go. Playing endless Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on my friend's Playstation was one of my favourite gaming memories. The series got a bit stale in the end, but for a while it was a result of a studio on top of its game. They also managed the impossible and created a decent Spiderman game back in 2000.

The merger with Infinity Ward means that the team will probably spend most of their time working on new Call of Duty games from now on. Not a total surprise, as they were behind Call of Duty: Ghosts' co-op mode Extinction.

At least they'll have something to remember the glory days by. So long Neversoft, thanks for the games.

Another one bites the dust, joining Treyarch, Raven, and most of the Dead Space developers on the endless Call of Duty cycle - until the franchise dies and they all get laid off. Sigh.
