Now having been officially announced by Activision, Call of Duty 5 will be hitting the PC and the next-gen consoles, Xbox360 & PS3, but there are also plans for PS2, DS and Wii versions.

In development by Treyarch studios, this latest title in the series will not be seeing any more gritty modern warfare but revisiting the franchises roots back in World War II. Activision plan a release sometime before the end of March 31st, 2009.

Call of Duty 5 is set to be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, PS2, DS and Wii.

One look at the high sales figures for "MoH:Airborne", failure that it is and the high anticipation for Gearbox's "BiA: Hell's Highway" show that WWII is not a dead period. Yes there'll be heaps of complaints, but if made for PC, 360 and PS3 it will sell in truck loads. I admit it, I'll be getting it.

No actually. As a Military Historian I've studied all periods in history both casually and in my University courses, but it was WWII that first got me "into" military history. The very first book I ever bought myself (in 1971 at the age of 8) was Cornelius Ryan's "The Longest Day". Spent most of youth reading everything I could on the war. Since then, I've studied (in detail) the Vietnam War, the American Civil War and the Napoleonic Wars (and just about every other in lesser detail). That's not including Classical/ Ancient History. So WWII is, and has always been my first interest area. Just finishing reading my 8th book on the Ardennes Offensive and about to start another book on the Fall of Berlin. Hey, I don't get out much...that's my excuse anyway.

OK... I fuckin hate WWII after that shit... They should actually improve from CoD4, it actually wasn't modern whatsoever... The helicopter they use... is actually the Chinook's predecessor, i don't know what it's called, but it's older than the Chinook. And we don't use the Cobra Attack helicopter anymore! We use either Apaches, or Comanches. We're mostly using stealth warfare now a days... Like the B-2, F-117, F-22, and Comanche... Not too modern... AND WHY GO BACK TO WW2!??!?!??!?!?@?!#?@#?!@?!#@

Still the CoD4 multyplayer mode will be more played because of the modern theme, I mean, we dont wanna use old weapons we have been using the past 5years, we waited for modern warfare so long, and now they are back to WW2.
Actualy I have an idea! Why dont these guys make a Western FPS, you know like North vs. South and the Indians all running around the place, yelling, and you are this young Indian, you have this campaign, a little war with US Army. You know stealth missions, bows n axes... could be interesting, but maybe tomorrow...
