Tomb Raider dev goes on costs diet, loses 30 staffers to fit jeans

Crystal Dynamics has shed 30 developers from their studio in a bid to tighten their belts and help focus on the future, a source told Kotaku.

With less than expected sales of Tomb Raider: Underworld in the US Eidos has had to adjust their revenue forecast, with GBP 20 million cut.

"The cuts were made across the board, we're told, to eliminate redundancy and give the studio tighter focus moving forward," reports Kotaku.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is expected to buy Eidos for the year however provided that the game performs as well as critics are hoping for, with its dark and gritty edge.

"We need to look at everything, as we develop the next game," said Eidos' CFO Robert Brent on Lara's future.

"Look at how Batman changed successfully, from the rather sad character of the Michael Keaton era to the noir style of The Dark Knight."

Can Lady Croft reinvent herself? Many could argue she already has with Crystal Dynamics having already rescued the nimble Lara from continued obscurity up until Tomb Raider: Legend.

"Lara is still looked on with affection in Britain and Europe, but sequels don’t necessarily go on forever," said analyst Piers Harding-Rolls.

I was greatly disappointed with the new episode, didn't reproduce the atmosphere of the previous ones at all.
