The new issue of Edge magazine has the lowdown on Swedish studio Avalanches latest project, AionGuard, which has been in the pipe for two years.
It promises epic fantasy battles laden throughout an open-world led by elite warriors charged with recapturing the lands. Magic wielding elites who can fly dragons ...bliss.
Right now though there's no publisher. "There are obviously financial reasons why we will need a publisher, but while we are flexible enough to adapt we also need the game to keep its identity Ė itís a very long-term project for us," said studio co-founder and creative director Christofer Sundberg.
You take the role as an elite soldier as you lead the charge to retake your peoples land and cut down the magic stealing fiends who've invaded. You won't be going it alone though as depending on your actions, an entire army will follow in your wake ready to do battle against mighty fortresses.
Odd Ahlgren, narrative director for AionGuard, has said that the game is all about action and adventure "like God Of War, but itís a lot more open and you have lots more choice in how to tackle these situations. Weíre not making an RPG, this isnít about going to the woods and grinding." The game is slated for Xbox360 and PS3.
Sundberg describes the elite warriors as "WWI dogfighter pilots, Samurai and medieval knights. But instead of swords and aeroplanes they wield magic." Kick-ass.
Most likely AionGuard has just made the watch list for a lot of gamers out there. Grab issue 198 of Edge magazine to get your fill of preview bean spilling.
