The publisher is gearing up with teams and tech they reveal, even looking at brands to snap up so not to get caught out.
CEO Yves Guillemot said they are continuing to prepare for "the coming of the next generation consoles", and that they're "probably going to happen 2011, 2012." That soon?
Ubisoft is hiring more people to get a head start in researching new technologies, as well as eyeing up merger deals to expedite their capabilities.
"We want to take advantage of a company that could bring more technology to us, or new brands," said Guillemot.
"So we have now enough to help us to grow the company for not only next year but to get ready for the coming of the next generation consoles that are probably going to happen 2011, 2012."
"We have to be ready for that, we are already hiring people and buying some technology and looking at some brands as well," he continued.
Both Microsoft and Sony have been chest beating that their consoles are in it for the long haul, and there's been incredibly little information on any next generation of consoles from either of the two houses.
Perhaps Ubi execs known something us mere common gamers don't? Is SEGA looking to nuke the console playground Mr Guillemot with a Dreamcast 2.0? We can only hope.
With the success of Shaun White Snowboarding they're also looking to expand their presence in the sports genre. "It's really an achievement for us and it's helping us to consider that it's possible to take some share of that business," said Guillemot.
"And we will soon announce that we will make a little bit of a merger and acquisition on that front. It's a small one but it will show you that we want to invest more in that direction."
