Microsoft stealing Epic away from the PS3?

Seems like Gamepro thinks so. Associate Editor Travis Moses predicted in the newest edition of Gamepro magazine that "Microsoft will buy Epic Games for $1 billion this summer,” which is a bold statement to make.

It would certainly be a good move for Microsoft, with Epic making a huge profit on nearly everything they touch (gold finger), with the minor exception of Unreal Tournament 3. However, Sony is also invested in the software developer. As you may recall, Unreal Tournament 3 came out as a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 3.

While these wild allegations may or may not come to fruition, whoever owns Epic Games owns a very prominent franchise, Gears of War, and of course the Unreal engine. It's doubtful we'll hear any news at GDC or in the coming months, but if something does happen, it will probably be around E3 time.

$1 billion?!!! Wow!!! I think it's time I get a job at Epic! But I'm not sure if I would believe it if it comes from Gamepro. They DID make up that whole Gears Of War 2 thing after all.
