The massively multiplayer online market isn't showing signs of shrinkage any time soon, the subscription-based 'hobby' is continuing to grow big and strong.
In 2008 over $1.4 billion was spent by gamers on MMOs, with 58 percent of that juicy plump figure funnelling into Blizzard coffers thanks to World of Warcraft; it's great to be the King, eh?
Screen Digest conducted the research and tallied the growth, but these figures only included flat rate subscription games and not MMOs that rely on microtransactions to pay the rent.
Love it or hate it (like Marmite), Blizzard's World of Warcraft is one of the most powerful financial entities in the real life world (unlike Marmite).
