Wedbush: The next console gen will "not occur until 2013 or later"

Analyst firm Wedbush Morgan has released scribblings, predictive scribblings, that no new console hardware will be launching until "several years from now, if at all."

They also don't expect hardware or software sales will "peak any time soon." They believe Nintendo Wii to win this generation, with PS3 overtaking Xbox 360 in 2011 by 5 million units.

"Because it is eminently clear that no new console is planned for launch in 2010 (the fifth year of the current cycle), we do not expect hardware or software sales to peak any time soon," said the Wedbush Morgan report.

"Rather, we expect that hardware and software sales will peak, as they have in the past, in the year prior to the introduction of a new console; this cycle, we think that will happen several years from now, if at all," they went on.

"Hence, we believe that the “peak” of the cycle will be in year n-1, with “n” representing the launch of a next generation console. As we believe that will not occur until 2013 or later, we calculate year n-1 as 2012 or later."

The analysts predict Wii will have sold 93 million units around the world by 2011, with the PS3 standing at 49 million and Xbox 360 in third place with 44 million. Something to it, or just the usual suits throwing figures around?

Seems a bit pre-mature to be claiming things like this BEFORE the release of project Natal on Xbox, and the PS3 Wand.. who knows what will come after those are out, and how big of a success they will be.

WHY GOD WHY?????????????? Is the Wii so dam popuar, come on it's a smaller version of the nin 64. I'm with you Zerk, the way you can build your own PC now'ah days, blows any console out of the water. Sure i had a console when I was like 12 but I still had the commader 64. As soon as I learned how to build PC's I never owned another console. Maybe in 2013 they'll have a holo-deck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PC rules!!! Okay, that out of the way, what do they know about the PS3 taking over sales that we don't...massive price drop? M$ will be onto that quick as ever...and they are developing the XB 720...that's a definite.
