Midway sale to Warner "approved", to be finalised in "next 10 days"

It's done, the $33 million deal offered by Warner for some of Midway's shirts and that shoe buffer in the basement is complete, or will be in ten days time.

Midway San Diego and Newcastle studios were not in the deal, with the US-based team given "a required 60-day warning," so there's a chance "a bidder could come in" and buy it.

"We had a court hearing yesterday and the end result of that is the sale was approved and the closing will occur within the next 10 days," said Midway to Joystiq.

"Since we didn't get any bids for the San Diego assets, we actually gave the employees a required 60-day warning." US labour laws stipulate a company with more than one hundred employees must been given two months notice before "plant closure", noted Joystiq.

"For now those employees are continuing to work and it's still entirely possible that a bidder could come in and acquire the San Diego assets," said a hopeful Midway.

Want some San Diego real-estate? This one comes with people who'd build videogames for you, fancy that...

Nope, can't see that happening. I'm afraid it's going tobe another development shop closure, and will only reinforce the growth of Indie development. Such are these times we wade through.
