Content "is king" says NPD analyst, gamers will pay less for DLC

Videogaming rules over movies at cinema in North America, averaging at $47.79 per consumer per month. It's been "one of the most transformative years" for the industry.

NPD analyst Anita Frazier says while we're not recession proof, we are "recession resistant." Content is what "drives the industry," with gamers willing to pay less for downloadables.

"I still believe content is king," said Frazier. "What you guys do is so important," nodding to developers and publishers. "It drives the industry." Stating a little bit of the obvious there.

It's the pricing on DLC that us gamers are starting to really form opinion on, we are collectively realising that perhaps armour for one's horse isn't worth the price tag. DLC adding a single level but at a third of the full games price just isn't flying any more.

The honeymoon period for downloadable content appears to be over, with the NPD, who examined nine different types of DLC, found players just weren't forking over the cash.

"It’s their attitudes and opinions," offered Frazier. "I would take that as directional reporting."

And about time too. When the price is high, the gamer asks do they need it. If the price is right (ie. low) they buy it anyway. Game Sales projections for Q4 2009 are actually higher than for 2008, Recession or not.

Sad thing is with the recession you would think prices would drop on everything i.e. car companies but there not. your right if the prices were low than peeps would go spend the pennies.
