Stargate Worlds kicking as site returns, still need "sufficient" funds

Many MMOs face trouble during their development, but not many have had the streak of bad luck that developer Cheyenne Mountain and Stargate Worlds has had. Future still murky.

The website for Stargate Worlds has been down since the 9th, but it's live again now. There's still "desire, enthusiasm and excitement" to launch the game but funding is insufficient.

"As for the Stargate Worlds game and Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, Inc., our company has struggled in the current economic climate to raise the funding needed to successfully develop and publish our MMORPG," Cheyenne boss Timothy Jenson told Massively.

"While there continues to be a lot of desire, enthusiasm and excitement about the project from our employees, investors and fans, we will not be able to provide any updates on the development of Stargate Worlds until sufficient funding is available."

The Stargate MMO has had many ups and downs over the years, including a period of no pay for employees which prompted a website of its own to spring up, revealing their plight.

They announced at the end of August that Cheyenne had secured new investors, and more importantly, some actual cash flow for the studio. It seems that wasn't enough to dial out.

Call me a pessimist (go on, go ahead), ut I really don't think this is going to see the light of day. Time to move on to something less ambitious, or if it is made, it will be sub-par.

Sadly I agree that there is a chance of it not measuring up to par with many expectations. Only way this one gets anywhere is with a free to play model or it will die in 5 years like most other MMOs that get a staggered start and death march. A few stand tall though.
