No dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2, mod support unknown

Developer Infinity Ward was doing everything right to whip up gamers for the return to Modern Warfare, except for the bit about no dedicated servers, the lifeblood of PC gamers.

In order to play online you'll need to connect with IWNet, Infinity's own match hosting system. You'll be "completely reliant" on it but what of mod map support? Don't have answers.

"The silence you hear is because we’ve got a community right now structured in such a way that it relied on having dedicated servers," said a BASHandSlash moderator, in response to the eerie silence left by Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling and his 'no dedicated' news.

IWNet is designed to keep players of the same rank and skill set together.

"You’re completely reliant on IWNet and there is no dedicated server or server list. You rely on IWNet for matchmaking and your games, but you still have your private matches," said Bowling.

Things look bleak for the modding community though. "I don’t have those answers yet," was Bowling's response, asked if IWNet would offer support to mods like maps and such.

And everything was going so well... Are you ready to pick up that pitchfork and torch, and march yourself over to Infinity Ward offices? PC gamers are naturally irate over these changes.

Personally this was the last straw for me. I will not be purchasing this if they keep the product in this condition.

Why let the community make mods when you can buy Activision sanctioned map packs for 5 to 10 dollars right?

Activision is keen to continually prove that they have no respect for their community. Charging more for a smaller product. Now removing key features from a PC game. Something like removing mod support is just bad business. It provides the lifeblood for many PC games.

They are charging more money for less content. Content that appears in every other iteration of the franchise.

Vote with your wallets people, don't buy this game.
