Rumour-mill: Elder Scrolls V set 200 years after Oblivion, hints book

Developer Bethesda is keeping any activity on a new Elder Scrolls game very close to their chest, but a newly synopsised novel from Greg Keyes has given fans a whooping hint.

The Elder Scrolls: Infernal City, Keyes' book, "partly bridges the gap" between Oblivion and the "next game". The events in the novel itself are set 45 years after The Elder Scrolls IV.

"A novel that takes places forty-five years after the Oblivion Crisis, which is the story of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game and the expansion pack Shivering Isles. It partly bridges the gap for the next game, which is set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis," reads the synopsis, reports TVG.

An Elder Scrolls MMO project is believed to be in the future, but the arrival of this novel is at least something tangible for fans to obsess over. Waterstones has since pulled the rather revealing synopsis from their site and replaced it with a generic blurb.

It now reads: "Four decades after the Oblivion Crisis, Tamriel is threatened anew by an ancient and all-consuming evil. It is Umbriel, a floating city that casts a terrifying shadow - for wherever it falls, people die and rise again. And it is in Umbriel's shadow that a great adventure begins, and a group of unlikely heroes meet. A legendary prince with a secret."

Are you eagerly awaiting a new Elder Scrolls adventure, videogamer? Would you settle for an MMO experience in place of the standard RPG?

Eagerly awaiting a new Elder Scrolls?
Depends greatly on the outcome actually. A new game that shows how much consoles mean and how little PC's mean - then no.
If the next Elder Scrolls will have more of Morrowind and less of Oblivions console friendly autoleveling enemies and dumb down inventory and quick keys set - then maybe. I guess it depends on how much they will make the same and how much they will change. For me Elder Scrolls best game is Morrowind, setting was best and graphics feltoverall OK. Oblivion had the ugliest people ever and then the most beatiful lush forest and nauseating dungeons...
A MMO for elder Scrolls is directly a thank you but no thanks.

Actually I'll pass. I'm a bit tired of the Older Scrolls and quite frankly, Bethesda's graphics engine has me bored as well. Next!

Agreed Hero, something new entirely needs to be done. Bethseda is starting to be too much of a one-form company. Fallout 3 felt like Oblivion mod, only a few new good things.
If they make a new game i think they seriously needs to change the engine - no more green glowing cave systems please! The omnious red ones from Morrowind - much better. Also, take into consideration the best plots - the Dark Brotherhood is one of the reasons I kept on returning to that game. Better plots and a more clear distinction between the sandbox areas and the main quest areas - I hate to come to an area trying my best to pilfer and loot, for example, only to have one enemy unkillable because he is needed later on... Feels really stunted. :S

Bored of Bethesda?! Serioulsy?! Wow! To this day I haven't found a game that was more complete than Oblivion. And Fallout 3 freaking ruled in my opinion! So I'm definitely looking forward to another Elder Scrolls game (though I do kinda wish it were Fallout 4 instead).
