Japanese development studios for Sony have been lacking PS3 line-ups for some time, having been told to focus on PSP, but no more.

Sony are "now re-energizing teams" to work on new PS3 ideas for development, and will have things to show us "sometime next year."

Sony Worldwide Studios head, Shuhei Yoshida, explained that "their focus was shifted onto the PSP, which reflects the success of the PSP as a platform in Japan..."

"It's completely opposite of the way how US and European teams moved onto working on the PS3 and we see the fruits of those efforts, while Japan studios shifted their focus onto the PSP."

Things have changed though with Sony's Japan teams now producing titles like Gran Turismo 5 and The Last Guardian. More are to come with this resurgence of PS3 support.

"We are now re-energizing teams and coming up with new ideas for PS3 development," Yoshida-san said. "We'll be able to show fruits of this work sometime next year."
