Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 has a track editor, by the developer's own admission apparently, but Sony won't budge on the silence.

Allegedly it allows gamers to tweak or rebuild "from scratch" all the tracks included, but it's unclear the extent of user freedom.

"We haven't confirmed this and aren't offering any other comment at this time," a Sony rep told Eurogamer, referring to spilled track editor beans.

E4G reports that the long-awaited Gran Turismo 5 does indeed have one built in, and that their source is none other than developer Polyphony.

"Yes it will have a track editor. You will be able to rebuild a track from scratch or edit the tracks that are already put in Gran Turismo 5,” a developer told them, they report.

A track editor would certainly ensure it gives platform rival Forza Motorsport 3 something to mull over when it releases, to which Polyphony wouldn't reveal says E4G: “Sorry, we can’t give out any of that information at the moment. You will just have to wait and see.”

A track editor would be damn nice! The GT games always have loads of cars but never enough tracks.
