Doom cover artist Don Ivan Punchatz passes away, he was aged 73

You may not know the man but his work won't be easily forgotten, particularly for gamers. Artist Don Ivan Punchatz gave us Doom.

He was the cover artist for the original shooter of hellish demons. Had Punchatz known it would make "a jillion smackers"...

...he would never have taken the flat fee instead of a sales percentage, by his own admission. Don Ivan Punchatz worked on covers for magazines like Time and Rolling Stone. We gamers salute you sir, for giving us such an iconic Doom.

"So how was I to know this thing called Doom would make a jillion smackers?"
