More Modern Warfare 2 Cutbacks

First the prices go up, then the dedicated servers are dropped, and now this. Infinity War seems to be trying to push the boundaries of fan tolerance to their limits as they revealed yet another cutback for Modern Warfare 2.

The developer has announced that online games of Modern Warfare 2 will only support a maximum of 18 players, bringing it down to par with it's console counter part.

According to Mackey McCandlish, the cap helped the team hone map sizes, perks, classes, and challenges more effectively.

Still, with games like MAG boasting numbers of up to 256 and in a modern setting to boot, can any game these days get away with numbers as low as 18? Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Well, Left 4 Dead has four, Team Fortress 2 usually caps out at 16-20, and CoD 4 rarely reaches above 20, so I don't see this as being a bad thing. The reasoning behind it, however is not a good one for PC gamers. However, having up to 32-64 players on any servers at once for CoD was so rare as to be be virtually unseen. I'm not put off at the player cap - just the reasoning.

Man, they are making it easier and easier for me not to want this game.

There is no reason to have such a low player cap in this day in age for PC's.

I always play TF2 with at as many people as possible. Most servers sit at 32 around my parts.

Smaller gamer counts can be fun and lead to some very intense fights. But give players the option!

I'm fairly certain that when the complaints really start coming in, and they will as this game will sell and well, then Activision Blizzard will have to do a re-think. Their experimenting with new ideas might just end being a shot in the foot.
Then again, they are trying to merge SC II, Diablo III and CoD 6 onto servers that will suit Battlenet 2.0 and the servers that CoD will end up using (though how many will be run by Microsoft 3rd parties is still not known - depends on what XBox will use).
All-in-all enough mistakes to go around at this newly merged company, and the Christmas party might not be as jolly as they hoped.

I don't think the player cap will affect things much. 18 players is plenty, and if it makes for smoother and more enjoyable gameplay, it will be worth it in the long run for them to have made this change.

I think they are pusing it now. left 4 dead and others are more or less one of a kind games, modern warfare shooters? There are plenty of them around and everything that Infinity drops - DICE will pick up on gladly...

If only DICE would release release something half way decent (since BF2 it's all been downhill).

Yeah, BF2 wasn't that great either. Remember the first server in game browser? LOL, one could get really bald quickly trying to find a match there...
Well, I think we will have to wait and see how the trends turn. It seems that some games are more and more leaving the competitive arena behind and goes solely for the home players. Interesting move.

I cant believe people are giving these clowns money:

6 hours of gameplay
no dedicated servers
shitty multiplayer
$90 price tag.

WTF? How stupid can you be to play this vanilla shooter?
