No Dedicated Server Support for Rage?

Following on from the Modern Warfare 2 trend, id Software co-founder and technical wiz John Carmack has confirmed that the developer doesn't plan to add dedicated server support for the multiplayer component of Rage.

"It's not cast in stone yet, but at this point no, we don’t think we will have dedicated servers," said Carmack, talking to Variety.

PC gamers were in outrage when Infinity Ward announced that there would be no dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2, with an online petition receiving over 183,000 signatures since the backlash started.

How do you feel about more PC games missing out on dedicated server support?

No dedicated servers phylosophy seems to be catching up. I'm really curious on knowing the actual number of people that REALLY wont buy it due to it...

Not that many Kres...in the long run. Every time we see a change like this in the direction of game design, there is a very vocal minority (figuratively speaking) who starting hate campaigns. Then the product is released, everyone's happy and the nay-sayers quietly go buy the game and wait for the next announcement.
It's a curious move, though, and I'd like to know the rationale behind it.

Bad choice for id... :/ I'll still get rage for the singleplayer component but why are devs starting to do this ?

Well as danCiupeiu said, they thought it through and came to some financially liable conclusion. Follow the money trail...
