EA have been in talks with Starz Media, a film company commissioned to bring the animated film to the world through television and disc. Dead Space is a horror survival game, a team aboard mining vessel USG Ishimura pulls an artefact from a dig site and boom - alien menace!

The film is set to premier on October 31, the day EA's Dead Space game launches on next-gen consoles and PC.

EA apparently have another two franchise film projects in the pipeline but there's been no official announcement yet. Mass Effect from BioWare, now owned by EA, could make a good starting point as there are plans to extend its IP beyond the games already.

Will film making be the new marketing tool of the publishing giant? Should they stop now before embarrassing themselves? One thing’s for sure, they could have picked something a little more original than a mining ship digs up artefact, said artefact awakens aliens, horrible menace terrorises crew. There's just something so 1979 and 'Weaver' about it.

Let's hope we don't see a Need for Speed "don't forget to buckle up & drive safe" premier from Electronic Arts anytime soon.

Dead Space will be released on the Xbox360, PS3 and the PC this late October.
