Team BioWare has just launched yet another free piece of DLC for Mass Effect 2, this time a heavy weapon called the 'Cerberus Arc Projector'.

It's basically a sweet new heavy weapon that shoots lightning - so instantly it's awesome. It can be downloaded freely from the Cerberus Network.

What the heck is a Cerberus Network? It's the in-game news ticker that lets fans of Mass Effect 2 know the latest happenings with the game, and it also gives gamers access to free downloadable content - it's activated with no cost by a code in new game copies.

Used game owners will need to fork over a small pittance to unlock the Cerberus Network for their EA/BioWare account. The Arc Projector fires a "lightning-like bolt" at those Shepard points it at and can 'spread' to other nearby hostiles... and barrels.

Later this month BioWare will be offering yet more DLC for free, this time 5 missions with a hover tank, in their Firewalker pack. Also mentioned was another squad member to be recruitable from future DLC too.

BioWare promised continued support and they're delivering. Mass Effect 2 released on Xbox 360 and PC January 28th in Europe. Check out our galaxy saving review.

Mmmmm lightning gun. Gotta love it. Cheers bioware, you continue to arouse me with your epic games, and free ME2 content.

I remember a time, not too long ago when new weapons came as part of a patch. Now I believe this is getting out of control, and feels more like a "Horse armour" addition than true DLC. Bring back the FREE additions of the past, dammit!
