BattleForge developer Phenomic now has its latest project, Lord of Ultima, entering the open beta phase under the watchful eye of EA.

It's a free-to-play browser-based strategy game, where players build their 2D cities and get their economies flourishing to march off to war.

It is based off the extremely long-running Ultima fantasy world, created by Richard Garriott. You can start an account now and get to sampling the wares of this open beta. You will be connected with "thousands" of other players worldwide.

The game is completely free but supported by micro-transactions, with in-game bonuses up for real money. There are plenty of games of this type already in play, but who can say they've got Ultima in the name? None that's who - except for Lord of Ultima!

Why not check it out? It is free after all.

Interesting, and may be worth the nostalgic tripo down memory lane. Poor old Lord British. From Gaming God, to web-browing wowser. What a fall.
